A message from Fr John

Dear Friends
Good morning
Day 5
Today’s Gospel is Luke 10: 13 - 16
As we read it we wonder what it must have felt like to the apostles to have heard their home towns condemned fairly brutally. Why should he have done so? What was he really getting at? It must have felt unduly harsh. And then he condemns Capernaum, Peter and Andrew's home town, which Jesus has now made his base.
I think he’s really telling them to open their eyes to see all the miracles around them.
And so ….
I think we can sometimes be oblivious, or at least ignore, to all the wonders which surround us. We can spot the obvious ones like the birth of a new child or grandchild, or someone getting better after a serious illness. We might even rejoice at the changing colours of autumn or the new buds of spring.
What about the miracle of
- a smile in unexpected places?
- a small kindness from a stranger?
- a phone call from an old friend?
- a new book with fresh insight?
- a piece of uplifting music?
Or
- a deep sense of God’s presence during prayer?
- the confidence that comes from belonging to a community?
We pray for the grace of open hearts, minds, eyes and ears
We pray for the sense of wonder and joy as we share the miracle of God’s creation
Let us recognise the miracle of Jesus’ presence in all parts of our lives
St Joseph, companion in prayer and wonder, pray for us
Every blessing
Fr John
