A message from Fr John

Dear Friends

Good morning

I have just finished a wonderful book 'English Pastoral’ by James Rebanks, a farmer from Matterdale in the Lake District.
Insofar as anything can be, it is the equivalent of Pope Francis’ ‘Let us Dream. He offers a history of farming life over many generations but recognises the severe and damaging limitations of modern, commercial farming on the massive scale that the consumer society demands.
It is a great read, lyrical, challenging, fascinating and very emotional but I warn you … some of the language is rather more robust than we might be used to. In fact, before passing it on to children (or your butler) you will need to redact some words! For all that, I cannot recommend it highly enough; his vision is urgent and compelling.
But read Pope Francis first for the larger context and vision.

As you recall we will be meeting next Thursday (18th) as a Parish Forum with John Griffin from the diocesan 'Faith in the Future’. Please re-read he Mission Action Plan and if you have any suggestions to make, please forward them to myself or Maureen.

St Joseph, pray for us

Every blessing

Fr John
