The afternoon of Sunday 16 September saw the formal opening and blessing of the newly created dementia friendly garden at the rear of Christ the King by Bishop John in the presence of Fr John and around thirty parishioners across all age ranges.
The weather kept fine and the Bishop began by blessing the refurbished Axford memorial at the front of the church from which the group processed with hymns into the garden itself where Bishop John was surprised to discover that he was expected to undertake some physical as well as spiritual exercise by planting a tree which had been kindly donated by Olympic and World Cycling medallists Jason and Laura Kenny.
Bishop John completed both tasks with admirable aplomb and was rewarded after a final hymn with some refreshments in the room at the rear of the church which is now designated as the Garden Room complete with tea making facilities and a toilet which has been adapted to accommodate those with a disability.
The garden is to be known as Trinity Garden and is now open on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 to 12.00 and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 14.00 to 16.00 with volunteers in attendance.
